Edinburgh's Botanic Gardens has always been an adventure for me. The walk through the different areas is like a journey across the globe. Every turn in the path opens up an exciting new vista to assault the senses. When I painted the canvas I wanted to include the iconic Edinburgh skyline. The result proved to be better than I could have dreamed. The hothouse at the front of the painting has its own magic which is complimented by the exotic array of plants. It seemed natural to add an elephant to the scene, giving the painting a dual personality: the familiar backdrop of the city and a foreground of theatre.
